Turnkey brochure design and print project

A brochure that people ignore is a failure

Brochures that people don’t browse, read, or keep around are a bad investment. A waste of precious resources; time, effort, money, and opportunity.

Why do GCC giants like Emirates National Investment, Rakaa Properties of KSA, and Alshaya (the retail group behind Starbucks, H&M, and 90 other brands) – and countless small business owners, marketers and startups – turn to mecs for beautiful brochures?

Because we craft brochures that do extraordinary companies justice. Our team of top brochure designers grow their businesses with each brochure we produce.

We design brochures people genuinely want to look through and keep

That’s no accident. We have deep-rooted expertise in graphic design and print. And we’ve worked right across the GCC (in Saudi – Kuwait – the UAE and beyond), creating brochures for just about every industry.

Great brochures start with a conversation

Being responsible for a new brochure is enough to make your head spin, isn't it?

With so many options out there – with everyone telling you that their way is best – it’s tough to know where to start.

Create a brochure design in a few clicks. Canva, ready-made templates, and freelance designers – they all make it all sound so easy.

That’s because the user or client (that’s you) makes all the decisions and does all the tough creative work. It’s very easy from their side.

What content will you put in it?
Who creates the content?
Who decides the format and print specifications?

Worse still, ready-made designs will never differentiate your business. Not positively at least.

They’re the surest route to a brochure that looks just like your competitor’s. But ready-made brochure templates and tools like Canva won’t cut it. There is no comparison between a DIY online template, and bespoke work done by professional brochure designers.

Most brochures fail to fulfill their ambitions. And if we had to diagnose why, it almost always comes down to one thing: taking shortcuts.

We understand budgeting is really important. But there is a big difference between spending wisely, and cutting costs to the point where it harms your brand and turns away potential customers.

The truth is, there are no shortcuts. Creating a professional corporate brochure takes time, effort, and dedication. In the end, you really do get what you pay for.

As always, it depends what you want to achieve. There are many online marketplaces that connect you with freelance designers around the world. We’ve written about some of the problems you face with the design contest system these websites offer here.

But if you personally know a graphic designer you can work with, a freelancer might be an option for brochure designs. It comes down to the scope of work you require. Design skills are just one of the components you’ll need.

Using a freelance brochure designer is going to require a lot more work and input from your side. You’ll need to know exactly what you want and be prepared to lead the project yourself. There are no shortcuts, and a custom brochure starts with a totally blank canvas.

Creating a great brochure is a team effort. It goes far beyond a graphic designer’s scope of work. You’ll also need a creative director and a professional copywriter with marketing experience, at the very least. You might need designers with specific skills, (Adobe Illiustrator for illustrations) – or a professional photographer. Bringing that team together effectively is a challenge in itself.

You’ll also need to manage feedback and revisions, as well as provide clear creative direction. If you’re not prepared to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, we wouldn’t recommend going down the freelance route.

A professional creative company with a history of delivering great brochures is the safest bet for most corporations. You’ll need a team with the right mix of skills and experience to create a brochure that will achieve your business goals.

At mecs, we have a team who specialise in creating high-impact brochures. We’ve been helping businesses achieve their marketing goals for over 20 years, and we’re confident we can do the same for you. To find out more about how we can help you create a brochure that gets results, contact us today.

No, not necessarily. There are other ways to communicate, including digital brochures.

Digital media is very scalable, not to mention cheap. But in most businesses (especially B2B), there are very good reasons why you should want to print brochures.

As a physical medium, printed marketing communications give you considerable advantages that digital never can. You might say they have a lot more longevity or staying power. And a physical corporate brochure can carry a lot more weight with potential customers.

Of course, you can print brochures and use them as part of a multi-channel approach. In other words, use them in addition to your digital marketing efforts. An integrated approach is usually the best strategy. That way you can take advantage of the best features of both worlds.

We know customers with colleagues who question the need for printing. They see it as an expense, without seeing its benefits. Consider this: 78% of senior executives say they would rather read printed materials than digital ones.

But if you look at the bigger picture, it’s not just about what you’re printing. It’s about what that printed brochure can do for your business. It’s an investment in your brand, and a powerful marketing tool that can generate leads, sales, and new business opportunities. The fact printing costs more is something that gives you added credibility.

We can help you with both formats; digital brochure design (such as PDFs) and physical printed copies. Many companies employ both. The digital provides a low-cost format, while giving qualified leads and VIP’s a printed brochure.

We are currently based in Devon, in the South-West of England. Our client base is still exclusively located in the GCC, mainly in Kuwait and the UAE.

mecs was originally formed in Kuwait in 1997. And we have lived in Riyadh, Oman, and the UAE.

We began working remotely with clients more than 10 years ago. Using cloud-based software, we have successfully worked with teams that span multiple continents.

Several large, complicated print publications for UNICEF projects in Iraq and Syria have made us very comfortable with working remotely. (These projects had contributors in New York, Vancouver, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Beirut and Kirkuk, plus ourselves in the UK.) Brochure design projects are generally far simpler, with just 2 parties – our design studio and your head office.

We continue to welcome new clients across the Arabian Gulf.

The total cost of a brochure design will depend on several factors.

Studio hours (time spent) will be affected by:

  • The size of the brochure
  • The number of pages
  • The level of complexity, rounds of revisions
  • Whether you need us to source photography or create illustrations
  • Copywriting and translations, if you require

Printing costs will depend on the specification and quantities

We would always recommend discussing your brochure design budget up-front. We like to set clear budget constraints in advance. That way, we can tailor the project to meet your needs – and avoid any nasty surprises later on.

We have a lot of brochure design experience, delivering projects on-time and on-budget. That all starts with good communication. To discuss your next brochure, please contact us with:

  • A clear brief that outlines your business goals for the brochure
  • Any existing branding guidelines you have

A corporate brochure, like any major project, is an investment in the whole company that benefits your business on all sides. It builds credibility, inside the company and out – giving you the best possible foundation for success.

So long as we have plenty of background information and can identify your target audience, it doesn’t really matter what industry you’re in.

We’ve designed everything from real estate brochures, to sales literature for Watani polycrete pipes. Whether you need a new school prospectus or a great brochure for marketing B2B, we’ve got you covered.

With the right research, our brochure designers will adapt to your industry and project brief. We’re confident we can deliver an effective design that speaks to your customers and helps you achieve your business goals.

No matter your industry, our aim is to produce stunning brochures that are on-brand, engaging, and impressive.

What makes a 1st class brochure?

Successful brochures use timeless storytelling principles to draw attention, interest, desire, and action. To do that, you need these component parts:

A clearly defined brief

A clear purpose and end goal are vital. Formulate a core message and stick to it, don’t try to overwhelm the reader with too many competing ideas.

Very few companies include their design agency in this planning process, which is a mistake. A good design team can help you make these early decisions. What’s the mission? What does your company profile need to do?

You want to start the design process with focus, clarity and intention.

An engaging narrative

An engaging, creative narrative draws the reader in and can make the most mundane information interesting. The creative team can spend many hours dreaming up different ways to apply the brief.

You might settle on a certain theme or format that will make the corporate profile original and interesting.

Logical structure

The reader’s attention is precious and you can’t afford to lose it with overwhelming blocks of information.

A typical corporate profile is packed with information, usually dozens of pages. And you need to feed that content to the reader in manageable pieces.

A good design team will ensure there’s a logical structure and order to your content. That’s a key skill for a layout artist.

Balanced, intelligent design

Some of the best design work goes almost unnoticed. Graphic design is all about good communication after all.

Overzealous use of design elements is never a good thing. Like salt in a recipe, you need just enough to make things click together. Less is often more.

That’s why experience is so important when it comes to design. You want to direct attention, guide the eye, and highlight important messages.

Our secret?
Good old-fashioned hard work

Since 1998, we’ve produced prestige company profiles for some of the biggest (and smallest) names in GCC business. Here’s what we do:

Discovery sessions

What makes your company unique? We dig deep into your background until we know all about your business, customer, and market sector: what you do, who for, what problems do you solve, how you do it, and why?

But that’s not all. Asking these same questions about your competitors helps us understand where you fit into your market.

Brainstorming

Albert Einstein once said, “If I had an hour to solve a problem, I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.”

When setting the creative direction for a new company profile, our approach is similar. We put ourselves in your reader’s shoes. We try to understand their thinking, their priorities, their concerns, and their aspirations. That’s what our work needs to speak to.

We figure out your strongest attribute and what the core central message will be. Then we build a narrative and storyboard the brochure, much the same way Hollywood would produce a movie. It’s all storytelling.

The build

Ideas swing into action, as our team works on making that vision a reality.

Layout artists flow dummy content. Native English copywriters write headlines, taglines, and as much engaging content as needed. All using NLP techniques.

Our Creative Director applies decades of experience to set the tone and style, weaving text and imagery together. Concept designs are refined and honed in an iterative process. Step by step a finished brochure design forms.

Print production

A revised final artwork is produced, output at exceptionally high resolution. Offset printing is a speciality we take very seriously. One of our founders is a print professional with 50 years in the industry.

As a result, we get heavily involved in every step of the process. We have close relationships with a few handpicked presses in Dubai, where we produce company profiles of the highest quality.

We direct every stage on-press, in many cases we’ve played a part in training the personnel to print at 350 LPI – our HD-quality that’s 70-100% above industry-standard. Up to 2x the quality you (or your competitors) currently receive.
